kitchenaid-dryer-suddenly-lost-heat

KitchenAid Dryer suddenly lost heat

Hi, We have a KitchenAid washer/dryer combo that was purchased in 2005. The dryer doesn't get worked every day, as the wife prefers to hang out our clothes when the weather permits. Suddenly the other day, the clothes ran through an entire cycle and came out wet and ice cold. The vent was just cleaned 2-3 months ago, but we did have a new roof put on complete with a new vent cap. The dryer has worked fine for months now with the new roof, so I'm assuming the new vent cap on the roof isn't the issue. Checked the breakers and nothing is tripped. KitchenAid (electric) Model KEYS850LQ1 I have some service people scheduled for this upcoming week, but if I can figure it out on my own before they arrive that'll save me $150+ bucks. Thanks check out this link it's for your model # http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part...0LQ1pop=flush If this looks like your unit look at parts 14,15, 16 all should show(0) ohms Have a complete circuit. Usual parts that cause no heat. UNPLUG DRYER FIRST Take off back of dryer and you will see thermostats there on heater box Just to be clear - the dryer does turn on and run/spin normally - just no heat. Thanks pugsl, I'll print this bulkhead diagram out and see if I have the courage to actually take this thing apart. I work on cars so it's not a major issue, I just know taking stuff apart is really easy - its the putting it back together thats hard ( screws and the back is off, Use ohm meter on components, I usually have then fixed in 15 minutes but I have parts with me. Thanks for the info thus far, any direction on testing these wires? I have the meter I believe, just any help on that would be nice. UNPLUG DRYER FIRST If you have contunity (sp) or ohm meter all you need is a complete circuit (no opens) I always read from top thermostat to lower heater both terminals to see if circuit good and if not keep back tracking untill I find the open one. Usually top thermostat or heater element. After fixed check exhaust at dryer than connect vent and check to see if same amount of air is coming out there. Most dryer problems start with vent problems. Please post fix
