PC BN200 brad nailer won't shoot nails
OK took junkies and handymen (or women)...I have a Porter Cable BN200 18ga finish nailer that cycles but the plunger doesn't retract above the incoming nails. So it sounds feels like it's working but it can't strip a nail off the stick to drive it in. I opened it up expecting to find a broken driver, but it's fine. I was surprised that there isn't a spring to push it up to the top of the chamber so I don't understand how it works. I've only fired at most 200 nails through this gun. It shows no signs of wear, is spotless inside and everything moves freely. Correct PC nails, correct air pressure. I'm stumped. Can anyone help me fix this? Have you been oiling it every time you use it? Operating it at 80-100 psi? Does the driver operate correctly, retracting completely when operated with no nails loaded in the magazine? Have you opened the hatch on the front to see if there are any metal filings jamming the return of the driver? Can you manually push the driver back up? yes yes no no yes yes After I posted I went back out to the shop and took it apart again. The only thing I found that wasn't quite right was the driver guide was turned a little. I thought aha the friction of the driver rubbing on the guide is keeping it from retracting. Nope--no different after correcting. I think there's something wrong with the trigger/valve. The driver shoots all the way out but then there's no pressure being ported below the piston to push it back up. With no return spring I assume that's what's supposed to happen? The tip of the driver sits near the end of stroke and only moves 1/2 with each trigger pull. Maybe just a broke O-ring on the trigger. There are quite a few driver won't retract questions that come up when Googled but I couldn't find any real solution. Not one suggestion to check the trigger. The parts diagram doesn't show enough detail for me to feel confident in taking it apart any further. I'm going to drop it at the service center this afternoon. This message is for member guy48065. I have the same nailer with the same problem. You mentioned you were going to take yours to have serviced. Can you tell me what they did to fix it? Thanks. I've had the same situation with my Senco SFN40 finish nailer. The oiling through the air port really lubricates the piston and the other workings inside. Very little is left over to go through to help at the business end. You still need to spray either a teflon, or PB lubricant with the bail opened as well as where the nails go, ie. the spring, slide, release, etc. I wouldn't use WD40, as it doesn't last very long, whereas PB seems to do a better job. David: Sorry to say they repaired it under warranty and it didn't come back with any details. Talking to the counter guy I could tell he had repaired his share of pneumatic nailers he said it's not the trigger. It doesn't work quite the way I imagined--I think all the porting happens in the chamber. IIRC he said there was a valve at the top of the chamber that controls up-stroke, although that sounds wrong.
