1. Boil 1 cup of hot water. The easiest way to do this is to microwave the water on high for two minutes in the glass measuring cup. If the water reaches a rolling boil before two minutes are up, remove it from the microwave and move on.

2. Steep the calendula and echinacea in the hot water for 20 minutes. This will create a strong infusion that will soothe and repair your gums.

3. Strain out the dried herbs. You can catch the infusion in the plastic bottle for storage.

4. Rinse twice daily with the mixture. Swish it thoroughly around your mouth for at least 60 seconds. Do not swallow the mixture. You can do this more often if your gums need additional relief.

5. Brush and floss thoroughly every time you eat or drink something. This is vital to gum repair, since allowing food to sit on your teeth will further irritate your gums. Also, regular flossing and brushing builds up your gums' resistance to irritation so that they will be more resiliant to infection in the future.
