Install A Pegasus 1500 Shower Faucet

A new Pegasus 1500 shower faucet can add equity to your home.

Updating your shower with new Pegasus 1500 fixtures will add not only style to your home, but also equity. Installing a Pegasus 1500 series shower faucet is not difficult if you have a basic understanding of plumbing. The type of water connections and piping are dependent on your home's current plumbing. Research your plumbing and have everything you need at hand before you begin the installation.

Instructions

1. Once the front shower wall has been removed, remove the old shower faucet. Close off the water supply at the home's main water shut-off valve or turn off the water meter near the curb in your front yard with a meter key.

2. Open any outside water hydrants connected to your home to drain the water from your plumbing system; this will make the installation easier.

3. Remove the old shower faucet trim. Disconnect the faucet's handle with a screwdriver or hex wrench. Unscrew the escutcheon faceplate mounting screws with a screwdriver and detach the plate. Unscrew the shower head mounting arm counterclockwise with a pipe wrench.

4. Disconnect the old shower faucet body. Remove any restrains (nails or screws holding the body in place). Cut the hot and cold water supply lines with a copper tubing cutter or hacksaw. Make the cut at least 3 inches from the faucet body; this will give you plenty of room to work. Unscrew the faucet body from the shower raiser pipe; hold one pipe wrench on the raiser and then turn the faucet body with another pipe wrench.

5. Wrap Teflon tape clockwise around the threads of the shower faucet raiser, then screw the Pegasus faucet body onto the raiser in a clockwise direction. Tighten the new faucet body by holding one pipe wrench on the shower raiser pipe and turning the body with another; do not over tighten the faucet.

6. Mount the new Pegasus 1500 shower faucet body to a two-by-four cross member between the shower wall studs. Mount the faucet body to the stud with two 3-inch wood screws. The screws secure the faucet through two brass-mounting wings, one on the top left and one on the top right bottom. Connect the water supply lines to your new faucet using the same material as your incoming supply lines---copper, cpvc, steel, etc.

7. Install the faucet trim after the shower wall is installed. Mount the faceplate with its two mounting screws. Attach the faucet handle with a screwdriver.

8. Install the new Pegasus shower arm and shower head with a strap wrench. Wrap both the threaded ends of the shower arm with Teflon tape, then screw the short end into the brass adapter on the upper end of the shower raiser inside the wall. Tighten the shower arm with a strap wrench so you don't scratch the finish.

9. Turn the water supply back on to the faucet and close any open hydrants. Slowly open the faucet to its full open position to rinse out any installation debris. Turn the faucet off and set the temperature control.

10. Screw the shower head on the open end of the shower arm by hand. Secure with an adjustable wrench.

Tips Warnings

Make sure the faucet body is level and centered with the new wall installation according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Do not use Teflon paste to install any pressure-balance faucet. The Teflon paste can enter the faucet's valve and clog the intake ports, rendering the faucet useless.
