Change The Elapsed Time Before Your Monitor Automatically Turns Off

Lengthen the life of your monitor by turning it off when idle.

You can set up your computer so that the monitor will automatically turn off after a period of idle time. Doing so will save energy and prolong the life of your monitor. The following steps will show you change the elapsed time before your monitor automatically turns off.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the Start menu and type screensaver (without quotes) in the Search field. The Screen Saver Settings dialog appears.

2. Under Power Management, click the Change power settings link. The Select a Power Plan dialog appears.

3. Click on the radio button next to the power plan that you want to modify. Then click the Change plan settings link next to the plan that you selected. The Change Settings for the Plan dialog appears, displaying power settings that your computer uses on a battery and when it's plugged in.

4. Select from the Turn off the Display drop-down menus of the On Battery and Plugged in columns the amount of time you want your computer to be idle before the monitor turns off.

5. Click Save Changes.
