Troubleshoot Multicam Digital Surveillance Systems

It is possible to troubleshoot your own security camera equipment.

When using a surveillance system, a standard setup is going to have multiple cameras. These cameras all connect to the same computer system and DVR (digital video recorder). If the computer system or DVR is not connected to the camera system, you are unable to record the surveillance content. In order to correct this you need to troubleshoot your surveillance system.

Instructions

1. Check the cable connections running from the cameras to the computer or DVR. If the cables are not inserted completely into either device, the video is not going to appear on the equipment.

2. Restart the surveillance system and the connected computer or DVR. It is possible the hardware did not boot properly. Restarting the system corrects most issues you encounter when using the camera equipment.

3. Delete saved information you have on your DVR. If you are receiving an error message on the digital video recorder it is due to the hard drive being full. Open the menu on the DVR, choose a saved date and press "Delete" to remove the content from the saved menu. This makes room for your upcoming recordings.

4. Check the lens of each video camera for any dust buildup. If there is any debris stuck to the lens, the focus is thrown off, preventing you from seeing anything the lens is aimed at.
