Sconce With Switch Vs Wall Switch

To control several sconces seperately, each of them must have a switch.

When installing lighting there are many options to consider. While there are no practical differences when mounting a single sconce with or without a switch on the sconce, this is not the case when choosing power a set of sconces.

Sconces with Switches

Using switches mounted individually on each sconce allows them to be turned on or off in different combinations. This can be desirable to set a mood in a room or to provide more light in a given area only when needed without having to turn on all of the sconces.

Wall Switches

Sconces with a wall switch can be convenient. To turn them on or off, flipping a single switch does the job. It can also be a safety feature as one need not walk around the room and locate the switches in the dark or cross a darkened room to exit.

Switch Combination

It is possible for sconces to have both individual switches and a wall switch. This would provide the best features of both options. Flipping the main switch would turn on the sconces eliminating the need wander across the room in the dark. A separate switch on the sconces allows them to be turned on or off individually as desired to set a mood.
