Canon Xh A1 Tutorial

The Canon XH A1 is a high-definition, entry-level, professional video camera with an abundance of features. Many independent film makers rely on the Canon XH A1 as an economical way to capture their film projects with vibrancy and depth. The Canon XH A1 records directly to tape, has an X Zoom lens which is actually more powerful than many other professional recorders and advanced navigation that is made simple, due to the varying sizes of the buttons and switches on the outside of the camera.

Canon XH A1 Basics

Before using the Canon XH A1, you must charge the battery. Connect the power cord to the power adapter and plug the cord into a wall outlet. Attach the battery pack to the power adapter by pressing and sliding the battery pack into the adapter. The charge indicator will flash as long as the battery is charging, and it will stay on, once the charging is complete.

Once the battery pack is done charging, you must put it into the camera. Make sure the power dial on the Canon XH A1 is turned off and then press the "Open" switch (located on the back of the camera) in the direction of the arrow until the battery compartment cover pops open. Insert the battery pack and close the battery compartment cover.

Preparing to Shoot with the Canon XH A1

Because the LCD screen (located just beneath the handle) is small, it is recommended you use the eye-level viewfinder when shooting video where you need to focus manually. You must attach the viewfinder eye cup before using the viewfinder by stretching the base of the eyecup around the viewfinder; position the protruding portion of the viewfinder eye cup to the left if you are using your right eye to film.

To use the LCD display, locate the LCD display (located on the left side of the camera just beneath the handle) and slide the "Open" switch in the direction of the arrow to unlock the LCD. Pull out the LCD and rotate it to a position of your choosing.

To install a cassette into the Canon XH A1, slide the tape's "Open" switch (located on the right side of the camera) in the direction of the arrow until the cassette compartment opens. Insert the cassette into the tape carriage and push the cassette compartment shut.
