Convert Mini Cassettes To Cd

Transferring mini-cassettes to CDs using a computer and CD writer.

Old mini-cassettes can become brittle with age and start to lose sound quality. Converting the tapes to CD makes it easier to access specific sections of audio much faster than rewinding and fast-forwarding a cassette. The conversion requires a computer or laptop equipped with recording software and a CD writer. A standard audio cable connects the mini-cassette recorder to the PC.

Instructions

1. Connect the audio cable from the Line OUT jack on the mini-cassette recorder to the Line IN jack on the computer soundcard, typically located on the back of the central processing unit.

2. Open the computer recording software by double-clicking the name of the program.

3. Insert a mini-cassette in the recorder and press the "Play" button, then click the "Record" button on the computer software to begin converting the tape.

4. Click the "Stop" button on the software when finished, then click the "File" tab, choose "Save" and type a name for the new recording. Click "Save" to store the recording on the computer hard drive.

5. Insert a blank recordable CD in the computer's media tray, then open the software that manages the CD writer, such as Windows Media Player, Quicktime, Audacity or iTunes.

6. Click the "Burn" tab on the CD writer software.

7. Click the "Library" or "My Music" tab, then scroll through the files to locate the desired mini-cassette recording.

8. Click and hold the left mouse button on the chosen file, then drag it to the field below the "Burn" tab. Release the mouse button to drop the file in the "Burn" list, then repeat with as many files as desired. The remaining recording time on the CD is displayed at the bottom of the list.

9. Click the "Start Burn" button to record the files to CD.
