Transfer An 8mm Video To A Computer With A/V Cables

The tri-colored audio/video cables are used to connect your camcorder to your computer.

Transferring your 8mm videos to your computer is a fairly straightforward process. Before attaching your camcorder to your computer, you will want to ensure that your computer has a video card installed that is capable of capturing analog video. This card takes the analogue signal from your 8mm video and coverts it to a digital stream that can be saved on your computer.

Instructions

1. Plug the tri-color AV (audio/video) cables into the output plugs on your camcorder, matching the color of the plug on the cable to the color of the output plug on your camera.

2. Plug the other end of the tri-color AV cables into the input plugs on your computer, matching the color of cable plug to the color of input plug on your computer. If your computer does not have the corresponding red and white input plugs, you will need to buy a "Y" adapter, where you will plug the red and white plugs into the adapter then plug the end of the adapter into the "Line-In" audio input on the your computer.

3. Insert the 8mm video cassette into the camcorder, plug in the camcorder and turn it on.

4. Locate the camcorder as a memory device on your computer. Open the icon for the camcorder, right-click the icon identifying the media in your camcorder, select "Send To" from the drop-down menu, select the hard drive you want to save the 8mm video to and click "OK."
