Tracfone is a popular prepaid cell phone that offers a variety of options for buying and adding minutes. The two primary advantages of prepaid Tracfone is that no credit check is required, nor is it necessary to sign a binding contract. Minutes are added at the cell phone owner's discretion. This makes it possible to control your monthly expense at your own discretion.
Instructions
1. Go online to the Tracfone website to activate the cell phone (see References). Click the "Activate/Reactivate" selection. Enter the make and model of your cell phone.
2. Remove the panel on the back of the Tracfone. Refer to the owner's manual if you have difficulty removing the panel.
3. Install the battery. The battery simply clips into place in the back of the phone.
4. Insert the SIM card in the back of the phone. The SIM card is a small microchip that identifies the phone and the user.
5. Recharge the battery with an AC adapter. The strength of the cell phone's battery is indicated by a group of bars on the right side of the phone's display screen. When the battery is low--one or two bars--the battery needs to be recharged. Connect the AC adapter into the cell phone and plug the adapter into an electrical outlet.
6. Locate your tracfone's serial number. The serial number is in the "Prepaid" section of the phone's menu. Navigate the prepaid section by clicking on the bottom arrow on the phone until you see "Serial Number." Enter the serial number on the box provided on the website.
7. Purchase airtime for your tracfone. Tracfone provides various options for purchasing minutes for your cell phone. Minutes may be purchased at local retail stores or online at the Tracfone website. Tracfone offers a value plan or airtime cards. Airtime cards are available in various increments starting at 60 minutes, 120 minute, 200 minutes, and more. The second option is to choose a value plan. Set up the value plan online at the Tracfone website. The value plan automatically adds minutes to your phone each month and charges your credit card or deducts the payment from your bank account.
8. Increase the value of your phone's minutes with the Tracfone bonus code. The bonus code is a five-digit code that adds extra minutes to your phone free of charge. The bonus code is provided by Tracfone in a variety of ways: online at the Tracfone website, sent as a text message to your phone, or Tracfone will send you a coupon booklet.
9. Enter the names and phone numbers of family and friends. Select the "Contacts" selection of the Menu. Select "Add Contacts" and type in the phone number and name and select "Okay". If you need to edit or change a number or name, click on "Edit Contacts"
