Install A Curb Sensor System In Your Car

Curb sensors are devices (usually installed on your bumper) that warn you when you are getting close to hidden objects-for example, if you're about to touch a curb while backing up your car. The sensors beep when they detect an object, and a digital display tells you how close you are.

Instructions

1. Open the car's hood and disconnect the battery cables from the battery, using the proper wrench, before you begin the installation.

2. Decide where you want to install the sensors on your car (most people choose the rear bumper). Check the installation instructions that came with your system to find the correct bit size, then drill holes where you want the sensors. Put the sensors in the holes using the rubber grommets that came with the system.

3. Install the relay box. Many people install this in the trunk. Use the screws that come with the system to mount the box.

4. Route the wires from the sensors to the relay box and connect the wires to the relay box. Make sure the wires are securely connected.

5. Connect the power wire to the relay box and route the wire to one of the parking lights on your car. The curb sensor system must be connected to the parking light so it will turn on when your car is put in reverse.

6. Use a wire cutter to cut the wire to the parking light, leaving enough wire on both ends so the wire can be spliced back together.

7. Strip the wires using the wire stripper. Use a single-wire-to-double-wire splicing connector to connect the parking light and the relay box power wire to the other end of the parking light power wire. Crimp both ends of the connector to ensure that the wires will stay in the connector.

8. Place the LED display in your car where you can easily see it while backing up. Use double-sided tape to mount it. Most systems have a wireless LED display, which will need a battery.

9. Reconnect the battery cables, start your car and put it in reverse. The LED display should go on if the installation was successful.
