Get Digital Stations On An Analog Tv

To get local digital TV stations on an analog TV set, the TV set has to be hooked up to a digital converter box (also sometimes called a DTV box or external ATSC tuner). You can use either a coaxial cable or a set of A/V cables to perform this connection. Either way, the set-up process is quite simple and takes mere minutes to do. Examine your TV's input ports. If your TV is equipped with A/V input jacks (a panel of red, white, and yellow jacks), using the A/V cables will result in slightly better video quality.

Instructions

Set-Up Using Coaxial Cable

1. Attach the TV antenna's coaxial cable wire to the "RF In" port (often labeled "Ant In," short for Antenna In) on the back of the digital converter box.

2. Connect the independent coaxial cable wire to the digital converter box's "RF Out" port (often labeled "TV Out"). Screw the other end of the cable into the "RF In" port located on the back of the television set.

3. Connect the digital converter box's power cable to the DC jack on the back of the converter box. Then plug the cord into a wall outlet.

4. Turn on the digital converter box. Turn on the TV and set it to channel 3.

5. Locate and press the "Channel Scan" button on the digital converter box remote control to initiate the channel scan operation. The channel scan process is what programs the digital converter box to pick up the local TV channels. If the digital converter box remote does not have a Channel Scan button, press the Menu button instead. Then use the arrow buttons on the remote to locate the "Channel Scan" option. Once you find it, select it to initiate the channel scan operation.

Set-Up Using A/V Cables

6. Attach the TV antenna's coaxial cable wire to the "RF In" port (often labeled "Ant In," short for Antenna In) on the back of the digital converter box.

7. Use a set of A/V cables to connect the digital converter box's "A/V Out" jacks to the "A/V In" jacks on the TV set.

8. Connect the digital converter box's power cable to the DC jack on the back of the box. Then plug the cord into a wall outlet.

9. Turn on the TV and digital converter box. Press the "Input" button on the TV remote control to flip through the TV's video input channels until you find the one assigned to the A/V source.

10. Perform Step 5 from the previous section ("Setup Using Coaxial Cable").

12. Use the channel buttons on the digital converter box remote or on the unit itself to flip through the local digital stations.
