The built-in GPS settings on Windows Mobile 6.1 phones are normally preset by default. However, if you're unable to make a GPS network connection, contact your service provider and subscribe to a data plan. Make certain that you obtain the access point name, and any other important information for your phone account. Once you have this information, start setting up a new GPS network connection.
Instructions
1. Open the web browser on your mobile phone. In the search field box, type in the website address for the GPS software that's used by your service provider. Click the "Search" or "Done" button. The download process will start immediately. Choose where you want to install the application on your phone. If a warning message appears on the screen, click "Yes" to install the application. It may take several seconds to download the application. Then click "Yes" again to start the application.
2. Follow the page screen prompts, and select your personal preferences. When you're finished with your selections, launch the GPS software.
3. Look for the GPS software icon on your home page screen and click it. A splash page will appear for a few seconds. Type in the GPS access point name, or your account number, username and password if this information is required. Also, keep in mind that not all GPS software versions are the same. Login information, display settings and menu options usually differ on each application.
4. Configure the GPS receiver settings on your mobile phone. If your GPS receiver is not turned on, a pop-window may appear on the display screen. Click "Yes," select the GPS receiver from the menu listing and click the "OK" button.
5. Use the GPS software to get driving directions and view 3D maps to find destinations such as businesses, schools, gas stations and other locations. Go to the main menu and select the "Navigation" or "Drive To" feature.
6. Use your current location, or choose a different location to start the navigation. In the "From" field box, type the address of your location. Next, type the address or intersection name of your destination in the "To" field box. Then, click the "Get Route" or "OK" button. The GPS software will display step-by-step directions for your destination.
