Sony Walkman has been a popular brand of personal audio player for decades. If the battery in your Walkman isn't functioning properly anymore, you'll need to replace it to continue listening to music on the device. Whether you can change the battery yourself depends on whether your music player has a built-in, rechargeable battery or a replaceable battery. Those with rechargeable batteries come with a charging cord. If you aren't sure what type of Sony Walkman music player you have, consult your owner's manual or check the Sony website for important support information.
Instructions
1. Determine whether the battery needs to be changed in your Sony Walkman by looking for the battery indicator on your device. Newer models of Sony Walkmans have digital battery indicators to alert users to when the battery needs to be replaced. This is indicated by an empty battery icon with a line through it. If you have an older model of a Sony Walkman, such as those that play cassette tapes or CDs, the player may simply stop working when the batteries need to be changed.
2. Locate the battery compartment on your Sony Walkman. The exact location of the compartment will vary, depending on the model of your device, but it is generally located on the bottom or backside of the music player. If you're having difficulty finding the compartment on your Walkman, look for either a battery icon or the model number of your device. This information is usually printed on the cover of the battery compartment.
3. Remove the old batteries from the Sony Walkman, making note of how they were installed and the type of batteries it requires. Both AA and AAA batteries are commonly used in Sony Walkman music players.
4. Put in the new batteries, being careful to match up the polarities correctly. You will see plus and minus signs inside the battery compartment that will serve as a guide.
5. Replace the battery compartment and turn on the Sony Walkman. If the batteries work and were installed correctly, your audio player will turn on.
