Mark a waypoint in your GPS unit for future reference. The device can then assist you in finding your way back to a trailhead, a favorite fishing spot, hunting location or any place you designate. Follow these steps to mark a waypoint with a GPS.
Instructions
1. Mark a waypoint in your GPS unit by clicking on the map. This will bring up a dialog box in which you type a title and description for your waypoint. Click "OK."
2. Add a waypoint by entering the coordinates if you already know them. Click "New Waypoint" in the Tools menu, and then press "F3." Enter the coordinates, a title and a description in the dialog box. Click "OK."
3. Input a waypoint by averaging the locations of a group of waypoints. Select 2 or more waypoints and click "Average Waypoint" on the Tools menu. Right click on the waypoint that you chose and click "Average Waypoint." Fill in the information in the dialog box.
4. Average a track or shape and store the waypoints. Click on "Average Waypoint" on the Tools menu. Right-click on the track you choose, select "Average Waypoint" and then fill in the information in the dialog box.
5. Enter a new waypoint into your GPS unit by projecting it. Choose a waypoint and click on "Project Waypoint" in the Tools menu. Right-click on the chosen waypoint, select "Project Waypoint" and input the distance and bearing to it. Click "Project" and label the new waypoint in the "Edit Waypoint" dialog box.
