Most camera users have experienced the frustration of trying to upload pictures from a camera and the camera not being recognized by the computer. This issue is often linked to improper connectivity, including utilization of the wrong cords, unfamiliarity with certain programs and uninstalled drivers. In rare cases, the problem might be with the hardware itself, as cameras are susceptible to damage that naturally comes from wear and tear, as well as other things such as water damage, battery corrosion and problems with memory cards.
Instructions
Installing OLYMPUS Master
1. Boot your computer and insert the OLYMPUS Master CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Select the "OLYMPUS Master" button from the dialog box that appears on your desktop.
3. Click "Next" and follow the on-screen prompts to continue installing the program.
4. Select "Finish" to finish installing the program, then choose to restart your computer immediately. Once your computer reboots, OLYMPUS Master should be installed and recognize your camera.
Installing Drivers and Firmware
5. Install the latest firmware update provided by Olympus on its website. Olympus' firmware updates are free and can be found on the "Download Files: Software, Firmware, Drivers" page, underneath the section entitled "Firmware update for OLYMPUS E-SYSTEM." Select the "Click here!" link to begin downloading the latest firmware.
6. Install the proper driver from Olympus' website for your E-500 digital camera. Drivers can be found on the "Other Files : Software, Firmware, Drivers" page.
7. Scroll down until you see the section entitled "Driver software". Locate the E-500 model underneath the "Compatible models" heading. Click the "Download (English)" link to begin downloading and installing the proper driver.
8. Reboot your computer.
9. Connect your camera to the computer via a USB cable as outlined in the Olympus E-500 user's manual. Your images will accessible through the OLYMPUS Master software. Follow the instructions on pp. 152-166 to properly connect your camera to a computer using a USB cable. This should resolve any problems associated with properly connecting your camera to a computer.
