Rate International Prepaid Phone Cards

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has stated that the international prepaid phone card market can be deceptive. In order to rate the quality of an international phone card, you must review the information on the phone card and take into consideration a number of factors.

Instructions

Rate International Prepaid Phone Cards

1. Review the package and the advertised information and determine the rates for domestic and international calls. According to the FTC, "If you can't find the rate, consider buying a different card."

2. Review the company disclosures regarding surcharges or activation and maintenance fees. Also look for information about fees for calls from a pay phone or calls to a cell phone. These additional charges and fees can result in less actual phone time.

3. Determine if a toll-free customer service number is available. The FTC suggests that "If the customer service number isn't toll-free or displayed, it may be difficult to contact the company if you have a problem with the card."

4. Ensure that the Personal Identification Number (PIN) is hidden. The PIN number should not be visible to anyone until the time of purchase. If the PIN is not hidden, the numbers could have been copied and the phone time you paid for could no longer be available for use.
