Connect Your Car Amplifier To Your Battery

Car stereo amplifiers turn standard car stereo's into powerful stereo sound systems. The signal strength from a stock stereo head unit is capable of providing only a limited signal strength. To adequately power aftermarket speakers, including subwoofers and bass tubes, you need a stronger signal than a factory unit can provide. Add an amplifier for the necessary signal power. The amplifier relies upon a dedicated power source from a vehicle's battery. You can have an audio professional connect the amp to your car's battery or connect it yourself in less than 30 minutes.

Instructions

1. Raise the vehicle's hood to access the battery. Loosen the bolts that secure each of the battery cable's to the respective battery terminals. Lift the negative battery cable clamp from the negative battery terminal post and pull it away from the battery.

2. Lift the positive battery cable clamp away from the positive battery terminal post. Place the ring terminal (from the amp wiring kit) onto the positive battery terminal. Replace the positive battery cable clamp onto the positive battery terminal, above the ring terminal. Tighten the bolt on the cable's clamp with the wrench.

3. Plug the power cable from the kit into the ring terminal. Remove the fuse from the fuse slot on the ring terminal.

4. Feed the power cable through the established path between the engine compartment and the inside of the vehicle. If the path is not accessible, drill an opening in the firewall behind the battery. Place a rubber grommet into the new hole to protect the power cable. Feed the cable through the hole and into the footwell on the driver's side of the vehicle.

5. Run the power cable from the driver's side footwell to the location of the amplifier. Plug the cable into the outlet labeled "power" on the amplifier. Return to the engine compartment.

6. Replace the negative battery cable clamp onto the negative battery terminal post. Tighten the cable's clamp to the post with the wrench. Place the fuse into the slot on the ring terminal. Close the vehicle's hood.
