Clean A Nikon Reflex Lens

It is important that you blow away any dust before cleaning your reflex lens.

Nikon first began making its reflex lens back in 1960 with the advent of the Nikon F and the Nikon SP. The telephoto lens brings the shot in closer in order to create better pictures. No matter how careful you are, your camera lens will get dirty, and this can affect the quality of your pictures. It is vital that you practice effective lens cleaning techniques to avoid damaging the lens or the coating.

Instructions

1. Use a camera lens brush to get rid of any dust on your reflex lens. Camera supply centers or stores often have a gadget that has a bulb to blow the dust off, after which you can use a brush attachment to clean any remaining particles. It is important that you remove the dust before cleaning, because dust can scratch or damage the lens or the coating.

2. Clean any fingerprints or other residue from the lens by inhaling and then exhaling onto the lens. This will create a mist and then you can clean away the smudge with a micro fiber cloth.

3. Wipe the smudge gently with the cloth. Start in the center, wiping with a circular motion ending at the edge of your reflex lens. If it is difficult to remove, exhale on the lens again. It is better to repeat the method than to rub too forcefully.

4. Use a camera lens cleaning solution if the smudge is stubborn. Always wet a soft cloth, such as a cotton t-shirt or cloth diaper, with the solution instead of pouring the solution onto the lens itself. If you do not have a soft cloth available, use a lens cleaning tissue, but always with the lens cleaning solution. Never use them dry.
