Set Up A Tv In A Cubby Hole

A cubbyhole may accomodate a variety of television sizes.

A cubbyhole can provide an enclosed area where you can set up your TV and have it serve as a focal point for your room. Setting up a TV in a cubbyhole is no more difficult than installing it in an open space, except that the confined area will restrict your freedom of movement. Because of this, your installation may require some planning, as you will have to run cables and prongs through a narrow aperture. Even so, you can set up your TV in a cubbyhole unassisted and with only a few common household tools.

Instructions

1. Ensure that the cubbyhole provides enough space for your TV before you proceed. The cubbyhole must allow for the television set to fit inside, and to reduce clutter, it will ideally provide additional space for any components connected to your TV, such as your satellite or cable receiver.

2. Open up the back of the cubbyhole, using a power saw or similar tool to cut into the rear of the cubbyhole. This will allow you to feed the TV cables from the back of the cubbyhole for easy access to wall outlets and other ports. This opening does not need to be large. It can be a thin, rectangular opening.

3. Slide your TV carefully into the cubbyhole. Hold the power cable in one of your hands so it does not get caught under the TV when you place it in the cubbyhole.

4. Run the power cable out of the back of the cubbyhole and plug it into the nearest wall outlet or power strip.

5. Connect the coaxial cable to your cable or satellite receiver. This is a black cord with a single-pronged opening on each of end. Plug the coaxial cable into the "ANT IN" port on the back of your cable or satellite receiver box. Ensure it is securely connected to this port.

6. Connect the cable or satellite receiver to your TV using the composite cable included with the receiver. This cable typically consists of a red, white and yellow wire with a connector on each end. Connect the cables to the matching red, yellow and white composite ports on the back of the receiver. Then, run the other cable ends up through the back of the cubbyhole.

7. Connect the red, yellow and white jacks to the corresponding ports on the back of the TV now that the cable is inserted through the back of the cubbyhole.

8. Turn on your receiver and television set to verify that your equipment is working properly. The receiver's menu should appear on your TV screen.
