The Sixinone Card Reader Won'T Read Smart Media

A card reader is a device that allows you to read from smart cards, including CompactFlash, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, SecureDigital, SmartMedia (SD), Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) and XD cards. You can easily insert your digital camera or mobile phone's smart card and insert it into the card reader so that the computer reads the data stored in it. A card reader usually comes with a USB connector that you can easily connect to a USB port in your computer. If you are having problems reading data from your six-in-one card reader, below are ways to troubleshoot the problem.

Instructions

1. Remove the card reader from the slot and shut down the computer. Turn the computer back on and reinsert the card reader to the USB slot. Make sure that the card reader is properly inserted into the slot.

2. Ensure that the card reader is supported by the operating system you have installed. Check the documentation that came with your six-in-one card reader for the specifications.

3. Remove the card reader from the USB port and plug it into another USB port available. The card reader may be failing to receive enough power to boot the device. If the card reader is connected into a USB hub, remove it from there and plug it directly into a USB port.

4. Insert another card reader (if you have access to one) into the same slot in your computer and see if it works. If it does work, the card reader you were using is malfunctioning.

5. Always "safely remove" the card reader from the USB port of your computer to avoid inflicting damage to the device. To do this, right-click the USB icon in your notification area and then select "Safely remove hardware." Select the name of your card reader and wait for the computer to notify you that it is already safe to remove the hardware.
