Make A Camcorder A Wireless Mic

A camcorder records audio with a built-in microphone at the same time as the video is being filmed. You can make your camcorder the equivalent of a wireless microphone, or "mic," by connecting a wireless audio transmitter. The wireless audio transmitter kit can be acquired from a hobby shop or electronics store. Audio cables that most homes already have on hand will be needed as well. The camcorder will not be modified or physically altered in any way.

Instructions

1. Place the camcorder on table. Place the wireless audio transmitter on the table next to the camcorder.

2. Open the battery compartment lid on the back of the wireless audio transmitter if it is battery powered. Insert the required batteries into the battery compartment and close the lid. If the transmitter uses AC current instead, plug the transmitter's power supply cord into a wall outlet and the power supply's power port cable into the power connection on the transmitter.

3. Rotate the external antenna, if one is attached, so that it is pointing in the direction of where you will be placing the audio receiver. Turn the power switch of the transmitter on, if one is present.

4. Open the panel of the camcorder where the connections are kept. Plug the red RCA connector at one end of an audio cable into the red audio output in the camera. Plug the red RCA connector at the other end of the audio cable into the red RCA audio input on the transmitter. If there are no RCA connectors on the camera, connect the USB connector at one end of the USB to A/V cable into the USB output on the camera. Connect the red RCA connector at the other end of the USB to A/V cable into the red audio output in the side panel. If neither of these connections are present, plug an end of a mini-HDMI cable into the mini-HDMI port on the camcorder and the other end into the mini-HDMI input on the transmitter.

5. Place the wireless audio receiver in the area where you want to listen to the audio coming from the transmitter. Open the battery compartment lid on the wireless audio receiver if it is battery powered. Insert batteries into the battery compartment and close the lid. If the receiver uses AC current instead, plug the receiver's power supply cord into a wall outlet and the power supply's power port cable into the power connection on the receiver.

6. Rotate the external antenna, if one is attached, so that it faces in the general direction of where the wireless transmitter is located. Plug a headphone's connection cord into the headphones jack on the wireless receiver. Turn the power switch on, if one is present. Put on the headphones to listen in on the audio being transmitted from the camcorder as if it was a wireless mic.
