Rca D770 Remote Control Instructions

The RCA D770 is a universal remote control with the ability to control your TV, VCR, DVD player and cable system. The D770 supports control of up to six devices, and features a code library for nearly all brands and models of controllable devices. Though it is not as advanced as some universal remotes, the D770 is good for someone with a small entertainment setup who wants to control all of his devices with one remote control.

Automatic Code Search

The D770 is programmed to work out of the box with most RCA, GE and ProScan devices. You can program the remote to work with other manufacturers' devices. With the automatic code search, the remote goes through a list of 20 code sets to find the code that matches with your device. To use the automatic code search, turn off all of the devices you want to control with the remote except the device you are trying to program. If you have more than one device you need to program, turn them all off except one.

Point the D770 at the device. Press the button you want to program and hold it. While pressing the button, press and hold the "ON/OFF" button on the remote until the indicator light turns on, and release both buttons when it is lit.

With the remote still pointing at the device, press the "PLAY" button. The indicator light will blink on the remote as it tests the first set of codes. If the device does not turn off and the indicator light stops blinking, press the "PLAY" button again. Repeat this process until the device turns off.

When the device turns off, press the "REVERSE" button. If the device doesn't turn back on, wait two seconds and press "REVERSE" again. Repeat this process until the device turns on. When it turns on, press and hold the "STOP" button until the indicator light turns off.

If when using the automatic code search you press the "PLAY" button 20 times and the device doesn't turn off, the D770 will not work with that device.

Direct Code Entry

If you find your device brand in the instruction manual, you can enter the code to control your device manually. To enter a code manually, turn on the device you want to control and press and hold the button you want to program. Using the numbers on the remote, input the code for the device. Let go of the button you were programming and press "ON/OFF" to see if the code worked. If there is no response, press the button you programmed and press "ON/OFF" again. If there is still no response, repeat the previous steps with the next code on the list until the device responds to the D770.

Using the Remote

When you finish programming the D770 to control all of your devices, the remote is ready for use. To use the remote, press the button of the device you want to control and then use the remote buttons that apply to the device you are controlling. You can switch between devices by pressing their programmed button before inputting a command.
