Choose Head Units

Head units apply to many things. Marine electronics, plumbing supplies and automotive parts all have head units. When you buy equipment for your car stereo system, there are head units to choose from.

Instructions

1. Establish your budget first before you choose head units to purchase. Head units come in a wide price range. You can pay a couple of hundred dollars or a couple of thousand dollars (and up) for head units. Before you choose, figure out how much money you need.

2. Decide what you want the head unit to do in your vehicle. The term "head unit" refers to the dashboard CD player in your vehicle. In the elaborate, much more expensive sound systems, the term "head unit" is the complex unit that runs the whole system. Some units come with monitors and play DVDs. Some head units are compatible with MP3 players.

3. Consider a type of head unit that will download MP3s to the hard drive in the head unit. You can choose one of these head units in a variety of models. Remember to check the head unit for MP3 compatibility if you choose this feature.

4. Think about the power output to the speakers when you choose head units. A higher output affects the quality of the sound when you want a higher volume of sound. Check the wattage. For example, if the package reads "45 watts x 4" you are looking at a head unit that will put out 45 watts per door speaker. A "50 watts x 4" would provide better sound quality than the 45 at higher volumes.
