Convert 8 Mm Vcr To Dvd

Convert 8 mm VCR to DVD

The footage on old 8mm videotapes can be transferred to the digital domain of DVD with a computer and video software. The 8mm tape can wear out with age and become brittle, increasing the chance that the tape will snarl or break inside the cassette recorder. Converting the content to a format suitable for burning on a disc will add new life to a collection of old video memories. A computer with a video capture card and DVD burner makes this transformation possible.

Instructions

1. Connect the composite AV cables to the Output jacks on the VCR, using the yellow cable for the video jack, white for the left audio connection and red for the right audio.

2. Connect the plugs on the other end to the video capture card on the computer, using the same color codes to match the cables with the jacks.

3. Open the video recording software on the computer by double-clicking the program name.

4. Insert an 8mm videotape into the VCR and press "Play" if the tape does not begin automatic playback.

5. Click the "Record" button with the red dot in the center on the video software to begin converting and capturing the analog signal on the videotape. Click the "Stop" button when finished recording.

6. Click the "File" tab on the video software and choose "Save," then type a name for the converted 8mm recording and click "Save."

7. Open the computer's media tray, insert a blank DVD and close the tray.

8. Start the software for managing the DVD burner by double-clicking the name of the program. On Apple computers, the software might be iMovie or QuickTime. Media Player is the default software on Windows computers.

9. Open the computer folder containing the copied video file, then click and hold on the name of the file with the mouse button.

10. Drag the file with the mouse to the "Burn" folder on the DVD burner software and release the mouse button to drop the file in place.

11. Click "Start Burn" to begin copying the digitized video onto the recordable DVD.
