Convert 8mm Film To Vhs

Converting old 8mm video tapes to a VHS tape is a simple process. In this how-to guide, you will learn the overall process to move your videos from analog 8mm tape to VHS. The process is similar to making a copy of a cassette tape. An 8mm video camera is plugged in to a video cassette recorder, which will record the video being played by the video camera.

Instructions

1. Connect the video output on the 8mm camera to the video input on the VHS recorder. On most AV cables, the video connector is yellow.

2. Connect the audio from the 8mm camera's audio outputs to the audio inputs on the VCR. Audio connectors are usually red and white.

3. Insert the blank VHS tape into the VCR and make sure it is rewound. Check to make sure that the recording safety tab has not been removed. The tab is on the back of all VHS tapes.

4. Put the source 8mm tape into the 8mm camera or 8mm tape player. Make sure the tape is rewound.

5. Press play and record on the VHS recorder. On some recorders, pressing only the record button may suffice.

6. Wait a few seconds for the leader on the VHS tape to pass and press play on the 8mm source device.

7. After the desired portion of the 8mm tape has played, press stop on the VHS recorder. If the cables were properly connected, the footage should now be on the VHS tape.
