Use 35mm Lenses On A Canon Xl2

It's possible to get the look and quality of 35mm photography on a video camera. Adapters attach to the lens mount of the Canon XL2, providing a traditional 35mm lens mount. Different lens mounts are available for different manufacturers.

1. The Redrock M2 Encore is a high quality 35mm adapter, fully tested and compatible with the Canon XL2. There is a light loss less than half a stop when using the M2e, which has earned the company much respect within the film industry. There are a range of accessories available for the adapter, including lens mounts and step rings, and the M2e comes with its own rails system. The price of this unit as of April 2010 is $1,798 direct from the manufacturer.


2. Cinevate produces the Brevis35 system of lens adapters for video cameras. The Brevis MP.2 is fully compatible with the Canon's 72mm lens mount, and offers movie-like images for $1,325, as of April 2010, with a flip module for correctly oriented images. Optional rails systems can be added at the checkout, and there are a range of accessories.


3. RNG35 Inc. is a company that produce a lens adapter of the same name. The RNG35 is a more affordable lens adapter, retailing at $599, with an optional rails system available in the store on the manufacturer's website. The company list the Canon XL2 as having excellent compatibility with the system.








4. Letus is another company that produces 35mm adapters for the Canon XL2. There are three separate products compatible with this video camera. The Ultimate is the company's flagship adapter aimed at the professional market, the Elite is a mid-range adapter and the Extreme is an entry-level adapter ideal for beginners. The cheapest adapter sells for $1,099. For the XL2, choose the 72mm thread mount at the checkout.
