The Polaroid brand was once known for its instant cameras.
Once a name synonymous with instant printing cameras, Polaroid has developed a robust brand to include such diverse products as printers, digital cameras, LCD televisions and even sunglasses. Among the digital cameras offered are the i735 and the slightly updated i737. The two cameras are very similar but contain a few minor differences.
Compare Cameras
There are many technical aspects one should use to compare cameras. These include the aperture, which is the size of the hole in the lens through which light passes; the ISO or sensitivity to light; the resolution of the camera image, measured in megapixels; image stabilization, facial recognition capabilities, LCD/Viewfinder size and other additional features.
Product Similarities
Small compact cameras travel easily.
At first glance the cameras are very similar. Both cameras offer 7-megapixel resolution, have 2.5-inch bright color LCD screen and 3-times optical (4-times digital) zoom. Both the i735 and i737 include a built-in flash and an ISO range from 50 to 1,600. Even the camera dimensions are exactly the same.
Product Differences
Some small, but important differences do exist. There is a negligible difference in the weight with the i735 weighing 4.2 oz and the i737 slightly heavier at 4.9 oz. Small differences also exist in the zoom range. The earlier model has a focal length extending from 5.8mm to 17.4mm while the newer model ranges from 6.2 mm to 18.6 mm. This means the i735 has a slightly wider angle, but the i737 can zoom out farther. Along with the wider lens angle, the i735 aperture is wider than the i737, allowing it to function slightly better in low light.
A substantial upgrade from the i735 to i737 is the addition of a face tracking system to the camera. This new software helps the camera recognize and keep focus on faces in the photograph.
Making the Final Decision
Polaroid cameras offer many options for great family snapshots.
Upon final evaluation, the zoom range differences are fairly negligible as is the weight difference. The aperture difference is small and most amateur photographers will use a flash in low light anyway. The facial recognition software is a good addition to the i737, helping make sure that the face is in focus. Though there aren't a lot of major improvements, the facial recognition software makes the i737 a slightly better choice for the consumer.
