Phillips Dvr Troubleshooting

Philips Digital Video recorders are designed to capture hours of television programming and store shows to the internal hard drive until you are ready to watch them or transfer to an external DVD recorder for burning a permanent collection. If something goes wrong, follow these strategies to troubleshoot your Philips DVR and get back to recording.

Frozen Video and Hard Drive Issues

An image freezing on your screen, or a lack of image at all, may be a sign that the hard drive is locking up on the Philips DVR. Try unplugging the unit from the power supply for five minutes, then plugging it back in. This forces the Philips DVR to reboot and may correct the problem.

Power and Connections

Make sure the DVR is connected to a power supply, then check the audio-video connections from the unit to your television inputs. If you use a separate cable or satellite box, you'll want to make sure the coaxial cable is connected and screwed in securely to the DVR and to your television set.

If the cables are connected to their proper input jacks, make sure the TV is tuned to the correct input and the Philips DVR is set to the correct channel for recording programs.

High-Definition and DVR

If you enjoy a high-definition TV, you may need to adjust the Philips DVR settings to work properly. From the DVR remote control or the component's front panel, press the menu button and toggle through the selections to the "Output" option. Scroll through the Output choices until an image appears on the television, which should display a 16x9 wide screen picture. Select this option and make a test recording.
