Get Live Satellite Views On Your Phone

Outdoor activities are prone to disruption due to Mother Nature---the thunderstorm is always a risk in summer, and in winter, rain or even snow can dampen the day's play. Technological advances in your pocket can help you plan your afternoon to minimize disruption to your outdoor play. Simply browse to the National Weather Service (NWS) to get live satellite and radar images on your phone, and get the heads-up---in real time.

Instructions

1. Make sure web browsing is configured and available on your phone. Your carrier can advise you if it is, and configure it for you.

2. Navigate to the National Weather Service's mobile website at http://mobile.srh.weather.gov/.

3. Scroll down the page until you see the text "Satellite IR Images" and choose the appropriate satellite link for your area---for example, "Western US."

4. The live satellite image will appear in your phone's browser. Clicking the link "Loop Satellite Images" will put the image into a time lapse motion.

5. Further exploration of that same NWS mobile page will provide you with radar, forecasts, marine tides and tropical weather, which includes hurricanes.
