Definition of a Class 4 SD Memory Card
Secure Digital (SD) Memory Cards are the latest technology of storage devices. SD cards feature flash memory, and they are now used for a host of devices, including cell phones, digital cameras, camcorders, personal computers, and many other consumer electronic devices. Regular SD cards can be classified according to three characteristics: physical size, speed class and storage capacity. All three characteristics can affect the price and compatibility of the memory card.
Application/Compatibility
Class 4 SD Cards are used most commonly for HD or Full HD Video Recording. They are designed for normal bus speed interface, which is slower than high speed and ultra high speed bus interface.
Size
The Class 4 SD Card is the standard size SD card. With dimensions of 32-by-24-by-2.1 mm and a total area of 768 square millimeters, it is bigger in size than mini-SD and the micro-SD card that are found commonly in mobile devices. The Class 4 SD Card is used more commonly in camcorders and even in some digital cameras.
Capacity
The maximum capacity on SD cards of all class speeds is 2 GB. Cards with greater capacity and higher class speeds fall in the Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) flash memory cards.
