Use A Canon Powershot A410

Assembling a digital photography portfolio is easy with the Canon PowerShot A410.

In terms of input and output, a digital camera is much like a film camera: Each captures the scene it's pointed at, and you're left with a photograph as a memento. Cameras such as Canon's PowerShot A410, however, offer a number of advantages--namely, increased storage capacity through the use of a "memory card" and several pre-set shooting modes to optimize each shot with the touch of a button. Get acquainted with some of the A410's basic features before you use it. Then you can set right to assembling your digital photo library when you do start taking photos.

Instructions

1. Have at least two "AA" batteries on hand. Unlike some other cameras, which require rechargeable lithium ion batteries, the PowerShot A410 relies on store-bought "AA" batteries for power, so you won't have to worry about carrying a charger with you.

2. Purchase a digital "SD memory" card if you have not yet done so. As is the case with film cameras, digital cameras like the PowerShot A410 must have storage media inserted if they're to work. With film cameras, it's the film; with digital cameras, it's the memory card. Insert the card into your A410's card reader.

3. Familiarize yourself with the PowerShot A410's many pre-set shooting modes. The "Kids and Pets" setting, for example, is designed to capture the motion of fast-moving people and things. On the other hand, you can use the "Super Macro" mode to capture flowers in vivid detail, ultra-close. Access the different shooting modes via your "Settings" menu.

4. Shoot a video or two. When you access the "Movie Mode" in the "Settings" menu, your PowerShot A410 can shoot movies of up to 17 minutes in length, depending on your SD memory card storage capacity.

5. Transfer photos and videos to your computer's hard drive. Connect the PowerShot A410 to your computer using the USB cable and click the "Print/Share" button to transfer your images.
