Copy Photos From An Sd Card To Computer

SD cards are memory devices cameras use to store digital photo files.








SD cards store digital information are are commonly used in digital cameras. SD cards come in a variety of storage capacities, up to several gigabytes. When taking a digital photo, your file will be stored on this card until you copy the file onto your computer. This process requires a computer with either an SD card slot or a USB drive, or a separate memory card reader.


Instructions


Using Your Computer's SD Card Slot


1. Eject the SD card from the camera and place it in the computer tower's SD slot. This is a narrow slot on the front of your hard drive tower labeled "SD."


2. Wait until your computer informs you that the hardware has been recognized by the presence of a yellow information balloon that appears at the bottom right corner of your screen near the digital clock.


3. Open "My Computer," and double-click the SD drive. A window will appear with all the files stored on this drive.


4. Hold down the "Shift" key while selecting all files you want to transfer to your computer with your mouse.


5. Right-click once on these files, and select "Copy" from the menu that appears.


6. Right-click once on your desktop, and select "Paste" from the menu that appears. Your photographs will be copied onto your desktop automatically, but they will not be deleted from your SD card. After transfer is complete, which is indicated by the progress bar that will appear, you may move the files to a different location on your computer's hard drive. You also may paste the files directly into any other folder on your hard drive by opening the desired folder.


Using Your Computer's USB Port


7. Plug in the cable that came with your camera to the output slot on your camera. This slot may be hidden by a plastic sliding cover on your camera. Plug the other end into your USB port on the front of your computer's hard drive tower.


8. Press your camera's power button to turn it on. The camera will recognize automatically that it has been connected to a computer.


9. Wait until your computer informs you that the camera has been recognized by the presence of a yellow information balloon, which appears at the bottom-right corner of your screen near the digital clock. Open "My Computer," and double-click the USB drive. A window will appear with all the files stored on the SD card in your camera.

Using a card reader


12. Plug in the card reader to your computer, which will then recognize the device.


13. Open "My Computer," and double-click the drive for the card reader. A window will appear with all the files stored on the SD card.


14. Hold down the "Shift" key while selecting all files you want to transfer to your computer with your mouse. Right-click once on these files, and select "Copy" from the menu that appears.


15. Right-click once on your desktop, and select "Paste" from the menu that appears. Your photographs will be copied onto your desktop automatically, but they will not be deleted from your SD card.
