Make A Fiberglass Speaker Box

Fiberglass is a versatile and useful material, and is well-suited for many purposes. Using fiberglass in speaker boxes allows you to craft custom shapes and innovative designs that will make your speaker system stand out.

Instructions

1. Select the speakers you will use. The size and type of speakers you'll be using depends on many factors, but since the dimensions and specifications of speakers vary greatly, this is an essential part of your speaker box design. Speaker retailers, manufacturers and online forums are an excellent resource in choosing speakers for your fiberglass speaker boxes (see Resources below).

2. Measure the dimensions of your speakers, including measurements of the depth and diameter. Now, taking blocks of foam, shape the configuration of your speaker box. Keep in mind the measurements of your speakers so that they will fit properly. when you have sculpted your blocks of foam to the shape you wish for the speaker boxes, begin layering the fiberglass.

3. Using the instructions provided by the manufacturer, prepare your fiberglass mixture and begin to layer it on your form. Leave the openings necessary for the speaker and the speaker terminal cup. After you've finished layering the fiberglass and allowed it to cure, scrape out the foam from the interior.

4. Mount the terminal cup into the box, and connect the wires that will run from it to the speaker. Connect these wires to the speaker and test the operation of the speaker. Then mount the speaker in the opening, using the screws provided with the speaker. Your work is done, enjoy your tunes!
