Make A Homemade Underwater Camera Waterproof

You get a whole different point of view when shooting pictures underwater. The camera must be insulated from getting wet in order to function correctly. To protect a homemade camera that will be taking pictures underwater, seal it in a waterproof case of your own making. You will need supplies from a crafts store, although they might also be available in the housewares section of a hardware store. Tools that are already in the home will also be necessary.

Instructions

1. Stand an iron on a work surface. Plug the iron's power cord into an outlet. Set the iron's heat dial to "medium." Let the iron heat up for six minutes. Put on the work gloves.

2. Place the urethane sheet horizontally on the work surface. Fold the right side over so that it lines up with the left side. Smooth the crease down with your hand. Place the eating element of the iron on the top left edge of the urethane.

3. Press down on the iron as you drag it down the length of the urethane to the bottom. Reverse direction and return to the top. Repeat this procedure an additional time. Lift the iron off and inspect the edges of the urethane to see if the two sides are now adhered; if not, repeat the procedure with the iron.

4. Measure 4 inches up from the bottom of the urethane. Fold the bottom of the urethane over so that it falls on the 4-inch mark. Smooth the crease down with your fingers. Run the iron along the length of the urethane, from the left side to the right, to seal the urethane in the same way as was done before. Let the urethane cool for 10 minutes before continuing.

5. Place your homemade waterproof camera into the opening in the urethane and down to the other end. Measure 4 inches down from the the top of the urethane. Fold the top of the urethane over so that it falls on the 4-inch mark. Smooth the crease down with your fingers.

6. Run the iron along the length of the urethane, from the left side to the right, to seal the urethane in the same way as was done before. Let the urethane cool for 10 minutes as you turn the iron off and remove its power cord from the outlet. Let the iron cool for a half hour before putting it away.
