Use A 580ex Flash

The Canon 580EX is speedlight suitable for professional use.

The Canon 580EX speedlight offers electronic through-the-lens exposure metering (E-TTL) with all Canon EOS digital SLRs and most EOS film SLRs. With a powerful range of 1.6 to 98 feet and up to 700 flashes with a fresh set of AA batteries, the 580EX is suitable for professional use. The 580EX can also be used as a master wireless flash to trigger other Canon flashes remotely for creative lighting applications.

Instructions

1. Turn the locking ring on the 580EX counter-clockwise to loosen it and slide the flash onto the hot shoe of your EOS D-SLR. Turn the locking ring clockwise to lock the flash to the camera.

2. Turn the power switch on the right side of the back of the flash to On. Power on the camera and turn the mode dial to P (program, requires you to set the ISO), or Auto.

3. Press the Mode button on the flash until E-TTL is shown.

4. Wait for the Pilot Light on the left side of the flash to turn green first, then red for full operation. Press the Pilot Light button to fire a test flash and make sure the unit is working, then wait for the Pilot Light to turn red again.

5. Look through the camera's viewfinder and focus on your subject, then press the shutter button. If you got a correct exposure, the Flash Exposure Light under the Pilot Light will flash three times. If it doesn't flash, recompose the shot and take the picture again. You may need to adjust your position relative to the subject to get a correct exposure.
