Enter A Code On A Directv Remote Control

Reducing remote control clutter is easy if you follow a few steps.

The ability to cut down on the number of remote controls in your living room can save not only space, but also the aggravation of searching for a missing one. An easy way to reduce your remote control population is to use your DirecTV remote control as a universal remote control.

With access to codes for your television, DVD player, home stereo and other electronics, the process is a simple one.

Instructions

1. Determine the brand name of your television. This can normally be found on the front of the television, below the screen.

2. Turn the television on.

3. Use the TV Codes list (see Resources section) to find the brand name of your television.

4. Slide the "Mode" switch on the DirecTV remote to the "TV" position.

5. Locate the code for your television. Note that some models have several numbers. Start with the first one, and if it does not work, go back and start with Step 4 and the next code.

6. Press and hold the "Mute" and "Select" keys simultaneously until the green light flashes twice.

7. Enter the five-digit code you found in Step 3.

8. Watch for the green light to flash twice. This will tell you that the code was accepted.

9. Point the remote at your television.

10. Press the power button on the remote control. Your television should turn off.

11. Slide the "Mode" switch to the DirecTV position.

12. Press the "TV Power" button. Your television should turn on. If it does not, go back to Step 4.
