Use Silica Gel With Photos

Silica gel has the ability to control moisture and humidity, to help avoid the spoilage or ruin of goods, such as an important picture. To use the silica gel packets to their best advantage, the item and the packet must be air sealed. You can vacuum-seal a plastic bag with an air sealant device: These are commonly used to seal food and keep it fresh.

Instructions

1. Place the pictures and a packet of silica gel into a plastic air seal bag. Align the opening of the bag with the clamp of the air-sealing device.

2. Set the sealing device to level four or five, to help preserve the photos. The sealant is on a scale of one to five. The higher the sealant number, the better the photo will be contained.

3. Press the "Vacuum" button. After the air has been removed from the bag, press the "Seal" button to close and detach the plastic bag from the machine.

4. Store the photos in a safe, shaded area, so that heat or the sun cannot damage the photos or the silica gel packet.
