Convert Slides To Jpegs

Use your photo scanner to convert your old slides to quality JPEGs.

Whether you're a photographer or a photograph enthusiast, you can use a slide scanner or a photo scanner to convert your slides to JPEG format. Many popular photo scanners, such as HP and Epson photo scanners, have slide scanning capability and easy-to-use software that allows users to scan film slides and save the pictures to their computer's hard drive. After saving your slides in digital image format, you can create stunning slide shows, video montages, or simply transfer the images to disc to preserve your fondest memories.

Instructions

1. Open the scanner's lid and clean the glass surface with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of streak-free cleaning product. Remove any dust, dirt or fingerprints from the scanning bed. Next, use a separate gentle cloth to clean the surface of your film slides.

2. Place the slides on the scanning bed. If your photo scanner has a built-in slide guide, gently place your slides in the guide and close the scanning lid.

3. Right-click your desktop screen and create a new folder by choosing the "New" option. Creating a new folder for your slide scans will aid you in organizing your new digital images. Next, click on the "New Folder" and rename it.

4. Go to "Start," click "All Programs" and open your scanning software.

5. Click the "Scan" button. Next, select the type of slide you will be scanning. Depending on your scanner's options, you can select "Color Negative Film," "Black and White Film" or "Positive Film."

6. Select the scanning resolution. Most software generally sets the dpi at approximately 300. In order to achieve quality results, increase the resolution to 3000.

7. Click "Scan." When the scanning process is complete, you will be able to preview the results and save the slide images.

8. Click the "Save As" button, name your new file, and select your new desktop folder as the destination folder. Next, select the JPEG format from the drop-down menu. Click "Save" to save and import the new digital image into your desktop folder.

9. Go to "Start," click "All Programs" and open "Windows Live Photo Gallery."

10. Click the "File" tab and select "Include a folder in the gallery." Select your new desktop folder and click "OK." Your imported images will appear on the main program screen.

11. Choose one of the photographs you would like to edit by double-clicking on the thumbnail image. A list of edit options will appear on the right-side of the screen.

12. Click on one of the editing options buttons, such as "Fix Red Eye," "Auto Adjust" or "Crop Photo." Continue editing your photo until you're satisfied with the results. Windows Live Photo Gallery automatically saves your changes. In order to reverse a change, click the "Revert" button to undo your image alterations.
