Use Amcap To Record Tv

Amcap is an application generally used to capture video from a webcam. There's no reason, however, why you could not also used it to capture TV video. Instead of configuring Amcap to capture video from a web camera, configure it for a video-capture card device. This type of card sends the AV output from a device, such as a TV set-top box, to a computer.

Instructions

Install the Software for the Video Capture Card

1. Insert the software installation disc, which came with the contents of the video capture card, into the computer's CD-ROM drive.

2. Wait for the CD to load. Once loaded, the video capture card's software installation wizard should open automatically.

3. Follow the installation wizard's prompts to install the software onto the computer. You generally only have to perform this process one time. Once the video capture card software is installed, you do not need to reinstall it, unless the software is later uninstalled.

Connect the Set-Top Box to the Computer

4. Plug the red AV plug into the set-top box's "Audio Out R" red AV jack. Plug the white AV plug into the set top box's "Audio Out L" red AV jack. Plug the yellow AV plug into the set top box's "Composite Video Out" yellow AV jack.

5. Connect the other end of each AV cable (if applicable) into the appropriate "AV In" jack on the capture card. Sometimes video capture cards come with the AV connectors already attached to the device. It all depends upon the brand and model of the video-capture card you're using. If you're using a type of video capture card which comes with the AV connectors already attached to it, skip this step.

6. Insert the capture card's USB plug into a USB terminal on the computer.

Use Amcap to Capture Video from the TV

7. Launch the Amcap program.

8. Go to the "Devices" menu and select the video capture card device. A check mark should appear next to the video capture device when it's selected. Go to the "Options" menu and make sure there's a check mark next to "Preview."

9. Turn on the set-top box. You should be able to view whatever programming is on the channel on the set-top box through the Amcap preview screen. Tune the set-top box to the TV channel broadcasting the program you want to record.

10. Open the "Capture" menu in Amcap. Select "Start Capture" to begin recording the TV show. Go back to the "Capture" menu and select "Stop Capture" to end the recording.
