Register A Sim Card For Cingular Cell Phones

Cingular pay-as-you-go cell phones have been re-branded AT&T GoPhones. There are two types of GoPhone--prepay once a month and prepay whenever you want. When you pick up one of these phones in a store you need to activate the phone. This can be done by registering the SIM card with AT&T on its website.

Instructions

1. Look for the SIM card number. It is found on the credit card-sized plastic card that came in the box. It has a small punch-out card in the middle--that's the SIM card. The SIM card number is printed under the barcode and starts with the numbers "89" (see References).

2. Look on the box if you've already punched-out the SIM card in the phone and have thrown away the outer card. The SIM card number is on the outside. It's on a white label with bar codes. It follows the characters "ICCID."

3. Look on the SIM card itself if you don't have the outer card or the box. Turn the phone off and take the battery cover off. Remove the battery and look for the SIM card. It's small and rectangular and has a dog-eared corner.

4. Enter your SIM card number when prompted to do so on the website, beginning with the numbers 89. Follow the prompts to choose the type of prepayment plan and register the card.
