Program Alarm Clocks

Consumers can choose between digital alarm clocks and simpler analog clocks.

Alarm clocks are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and with varying technologies used in their design. They can be simple, basic timekeepers, or include features such as a radio, CD player or MP3 player dock. Still, no matter how advanced the particular model might be, one of its primary functions is making sure you wake up at a specific time. The process of programming an alarm clock is largely dependent on the type and design of that specific clock, but the same basic concepts will be in use.

Instructions

Digital Alarm Clocks

1. Plug the clock into a nearby AC outlet or insert the necessary size and number of batteries into the battery compartment.

2. Set the main control to "Time Set" or press and hold the "Time Set" button, whichever your particular model utilizes. Set the time using the "Hour" and "Minute" buttons, or the "Forward" and "Back" buttons, depending on the method your clock uses. Look for the AM or PM indicator light on the display when setting the hour to ensure the correct time.

3. Set the main control to "Alarm Set" or press and hold the "Alarm Set" button to set the alarm. Use the same method you used to set the time, including the AM or PM indicator.

4. Set the type of alarm to a buzzer or other sound (e.g., radio) using the designated switch if your clock offers this option, and set the volume for any non-buzzer sound as well. Set the "Alarm On" switch to "On" or "Auto," whichever activates the alarm for your clock.

Analog Alarm Clocks

5. Insert the necessary size and number of batteries into the battery compartment.

6. Turn the "Clock Set" dial clockwise to set the current time.

7. Turn the "Alarm Set" dial clockwise to set your desired alarm time. With many analog clocks, there will not be an AM or PM designation to set, so keep in mind any alarm will go off at that time for both.

8. Turn the "Alarm" switch to "On." The alarm sounds at the designated time.
