Nikon N2000 Instructions

The Nikon N2000, also known as the F-301, is a 35mm film camera originally produced in 1985. The device's features include an F bayonet-style lens mount, a 0.85x magnification viewfinder, speed settings for ISO 12 to 3200 films, a vertical-travel focal-plane shutter and manual rewind. While many of the N2000's settings are user-configurable, beginners may wish to use the simplest settings when starting out. These will prove adequate for most basic portraits and candid snapshots.

Instructions

1. Position the rear of the camera lens over the lens mount. Align the black dot printed on the side of the camera lens with the white dot printed next to the lens mount. Insert the lens into the lens mount, and then turn the lens to the left until it locks into place.

2. Turn the camera over and insert the edge of a coin into the metal slot on the battery holder. Twist the coin counterclockwise and remove the battery holder. Detach the bracket from the holder and install four AAA batteries. Replace the bracket, and then slide the holder back into the camera. Use the coin to turn the metal slot clockwise.

3. Turn the film speed index knob to the appropriate setting for the speed of film you are using. Flip the audible warning switch to the "Active" position. Pull the film rewind knob upward to open the back of the camera.

4. Insert the film canister into the left side of the film compartment. Pull out the film leader from the canister and stretch it over to the red mark on the right side of the film compartment. Close the back of the camera. Press the shutter button to advance the film. Set the film advance dial to the setting labeled "S."

5. Turn the camera mode dial to the setting labeled "P." Grip the center ring of the lens, and then turn the ring to the minimum aperture setting. Use your left hand to support the weight of the camera and grip the right edge of the camera in your right hand. Rest the tip of your right index finger on the shutter button.

6. Hold the camera to your face and look through the viewfinder at your subject. Turn the focusing ring on the camera lens until the image appears sharp. Press the shutter button part of the way down and pause. Press the button the rest of the way to finish taking the picture.

7. Continue to take pictures until you have finished the film canister. Set the film advance dial to the setting labeled "L." Push the film rewind lever to the right and hold down the rewind button. Turn the film rewind crank clockwise, and then pull out the crank and remove the film canister from the camera.
