What Is A Smart Antenna For A Converter Box

With the recent transition to digital television came a need for digital-to-analog converter boxes. However, some boxes came with connectors for technologies unfamiliar to the average consumer. Smart antennas automatically adjust their position and direction to gain the best reception.

Operation

Smart antennas always seek the best reception possible. They do this automatically in one of two ways. First, the antenna may move to point itself in the direction of the best signal. Second, some smart antennas are comprised of many elements that the antenna will automatically turn on or off in different combinations to achieve the best signal.

Interconnection

When interconnected with a digital-to-analog converter box, your converter box will remember the setting for each of your local stations. With this information, your smart antenna will automatically change position when you change channels. If the smart antenna also has amplification capabilities, it will adjust signal strength optimization to suit your converter box.

Considerations

When changing channels on your converter box, there is a lag while the antenna readjusts itself to the new station. This prevents you from moving quickly from channel to channel. Despite the capabilities of smart antennas, they may not be suited to your specific needs or may be too costly for your purposes. Do your research prior to selecting a smart antenna to ensure its usefulness in your specific circumstance.
