Use The Custom White Balance On A Rebel Xt

White balance on a digital camera tells the camera's image processor what the color white looks like under the light you are shooting with. Once the camera has an accurate reading on white, it can render other colors more accurately. The Canon Rebel XT, like most SLRs, has preset white balance settings, including daylight, cloudy day, tungsten and fluorescent light. However, to get the best reading you can use the custom white balance setting and store the value.

Instructions

1. Place the white object or paper so the light source is shining on it.

2. Press the "WB" button on the back of the camera and use the down arrow to select "AWB" (auto white balance), then press "OK."

3. Set the lens focus mode on the side of the lens to "MF," then use the manual focus ring to manually focus the lens on the white object.

4. Take a picture of the white object by pressing the shutter button.

5. Press "Menu," scroll to the camera2 icon (it looks like a camera with a number 2 next to it), then use the down arrow to scroll to Custom WB (custom white balance).

6. Use the left/right arrows to scroll to the image you shot of the white object and press "Set."

7. Press the "Menu" button and select camera2, then use the down arrow to scroll to "White balance." Press "Set," then use the down arrow to scroll to Custom WB and press "Set."
