Donate A Cell Phone To Charity

Cell phones contain toxic elements detrimental to the environment. Rather than throwing your old phone in the trash, consider donating it to a charity that will refurbish it, or change it into cash for a good cause. Make an informed, beneficial, earth-friendly choice. Donate your old cell phone to charity today.

Instructions

1. Donate locally. Check with nearby schools, community programs and houses of worship to determine who has a cell phone recycling program. A trip to your local cell phone outlet may be worthwhile. Sales clerks often know which local groups accept recycled phone donations.

2. Use your phone to help victims of violence. The Support Network for Battered Women (SNBW) re-programs cellular phones to call emergency personnel. These phones are distributed to victims of domestic abuse. SNBW provides shipping materials and free postage.

3. Consider donating your phone to help soldiers stay in contact with their families. Cell Phones For Soldiers accepts used phones, exchanging the cash value for prepaid phone cards. The phone cards are then distributed to soldiers on active duty abroad, often saving them hundreds of dollars in phone charges when contacting their families.

4. Help fight breast cancer. Your cell phone donation can become part of the cure. The San Ramon Recycling Center refurbishes and sells old phones, donating all proceeds to the fight against breast cancer.

5. Choose your charity. Collective Good is an organization that distributes charitable funds and gifts to a number of organizations. Choose Planned Parenthood, the Red Cross, the Humane Society or another worthwhile organization to be the recipient of your gift.
