Use Fiberglass For Car Audio

Fiberglass, when used in a creative manner, is a flexible and useful medium for complementing car audio gear in a variety of useful and aesthetically pleasing ways. With a few techniques, you can use fiberglass as a part of your car audio system.

Instructions

1. Build custom subwoofer enclosures. Custom sub boxes can be designed and built to fit in a variety of locations in your car with fiberglass. Before you begin, check the specifications for your subwoofer and determine the box volume required for proper sub operation, then design your enclosures with these specifications in mind. Custom fiberglass enclosures are often located in the trunk or placed in spots where space is tight, like behind or under seats. Either way, the ability to mold and build an enclosure specific to your space is one of the attractive elements of using fiberglass for the enclosure.

2. Build custom speaker boxes or kick-panel pods with fiberglass. Full range speaker locations in a factory car audio system are often in poor locations for sonic performance. Using fiberglass, you can mold custom speaker boxes or reshape existing body panels to accommodate speakers in better locations. Experiment with placing the speakers in several different locations and test for sonic performance, and then build your full-range speaker enclosures out of fiberglass.

3. Design and build custom amp racks and covers. If your car system uses external amplifiers, a mounting rack or cover made from fiberglass can make a real visual statement. Determine the location for your amps, then design your racks or covers accordingly. Remember that amplifiers need air space around them to allow for adequate cooling, so keep this in mind if you'll be covering portions of the amps. Small exhaust fans are often a good idea in this case.
