Connect A Surround Sound Amplifier

Surround sound amplifiers are standard equipment for those seeking a high quality home media system. The amplifier boosts the native signal strength from the receiver to power larger speakers to provide a clearer and more powerful sound. Standard home theater systems do not adequately power their surround speakers. The result of that lack of signal strength means users have to choose between power and clarity when balancing their speaker arrangement. Amplifiers allow you to have power and clarity to all of the speakers included in your system.

Instructions

1. Place the amplifier on the shelf or entertainment furniture near the other components of the home theater system.

2. Connect speaker wires to the outlets on the rear of the amp. The grouping of speaker outlets will correspond to the number of channels (or speaker groups) you have as a part of your home theater system.

3. Route the speaker wires from the outlets on the back of the amp to the corresponding type and location of speaker. The center speaker outlet will be marked on the outlet relating to the center channel. Run the speaker wire from the center channel outlet to the speaker at the front of the TV. Plug the wires into the inputs on the back of the speaker. Repeat the process for all of the remaining channels (left and right front, left and right surround).

4. Plug the speaker wires or RCA cables from the "subwoofer out" outlets on the back of the amp. Route the cables to the location of the powered subwoofer and plug the RCA cables into the sub.

5. Locate the "audio in" inputs on the rear panel of the amplifier. Identify the options for connecting the amp to the receiver. Use an HDMI connection when available for the best sound quality. Plug the cable (HDMI, Composite or RCA cables) into the outputs on the back of the receiver into the input on the rear panel of the amp.

6. Plug the power cable from the amplifier directly into the wall outlet to ensure proper grounding. Use a power strip or extension cord as a last resort.
