Instructions For Use A Digital Camera

Compact digital cameras are designed to be easy for anyone to use.

The basic instructions for using a digital camera are about the same, no matter what brand of camera you have. The shutter button is always on the top right side of the camera body. Its LCD screen is needed to frame the picture and preview the finished product; this screen is always on the back, alongside a menu button and navigation controls. This makes it easy to use different cameras or borrow someone else's model for a test drive or a specific need.

Instructions

1. Make sure the camera has fresh batteries and an SD memory card for recording images. Many cameras use the same compartment on the bottom of the camera for holding both batteries and the memory card.

2. Turn on the camera using the power button. If this is the first time you are using the camera, it will give you instructions for setting the date, time and language on the LCD screen.

3. Move the mode selection dial to "Auto" to put the camera in its fully automatic mode. The camera will choose the right aperture and shutter speed, depending on the lighting conditions. It will warm up up the flash, if it's needed.

4. Use the LCD screen or the camera's viewfinder--if it has one--to frame the image.

5. Press the shutter button down halfway, to engage the camera's autofocus system.

6. Press the shutter button fully, to take the picture.

7. Look to the LCD screen to see a preview of the picture. The image will appear for a few seconds, then disappear.

8. Change the mode to "Preview," to view all the camera's pictures on the LCD screen. Scroll through the images using the directional buttons. Use the delete button to remove unwanted pictures; this button is typically represented by a trash icon.

9. Connect the camera to a computer using its USB cable. The small end goes into the port on the camera, and the large end connects to the port on the computer. Follow the computer's instructions to download your images from the camera's memory card.
